About the role

Pulse Africa is building payment infrastructure for fast-growing businesses across West Africa. We process millions of transactions monthly for 400+ merchants in Ghana, Nigeria, and Côte d'Ivoire.

We're looking for a senior backend engineer to own core services in our payments platform — designing APIs, scaling transaction processing, and mentoring a growing team. You'll work directly with the CTO and ship to production weekly.

What you'll do

Design and own APIs powering checkout, settlements, and reconciliation
Scale transaction processing from 2M to 10M+ monthly events
Set engineering standards and mentor 3 mid-level engineers
Ship to production weekly with observability from day one

Requirements

5+ years building production backend systems (Node.js, Go, or Python)
Experience with PostgreSQL, event queues, and distributed systems
Comfort with payment APIs and financial data integrity
Based in Africa or within ±2h of GMT
